Padding through the castle corridors, to silent to be heard by any, was a fox. Torches on the walls glinted from his pelt and the dangerous quiet of the night sent a chill of terror through the halls. It was dead silent. No one moved except the shadows on the walls, that seemed to not belong to anyone. The only other movement, besides the torches winked lights, was the fox.

In the midst of the quiet a noise was heard. The creaking of a metal iron gate sway on its support. The sound was like claws on a chalkboard. The gate could be seen through the window. It belonged to the entrance of the old ruins. Tinsel stared through this window for a moment, watching dark shapes glide through the ruin's gravestones and pillars. Many Kensarians said that Death himself walked through the fog of the ruins and waited for those who would come to him.

Tinsel turned away from the window. A dark, hooded shape had been staring at him, unmoving from its place beside the creaking gate. Few things scared the beast, but he refused to go to the ruins. Something was not right about the way things rested their. Betrayal sank through the muddy earth and evil soaked every gravestone in the foggy condensation.

Breaking contact with the thought, the canine padded down the black hallways. He approached a large set of doors, guarded by Un-named creatures, whose dark faces were hidden behind silver masked. The guards must have known he was coming, for they opened the doors and allowed his entry. Very carefully, Tinsel stepped into Koru's room.

The room in the castle designated for the King was one worthy of royalty indeed. The walls were flawless stone, and the floors ebony marble, dusted with silver specks. It was almost as if one was looking at the night sky while looking at the floor. A towering window rested on the western wall, at the perfect angle to capture the setting sun and the rising moon. It was here the King could most often be found.

The wolf sat there as the fox entered his chambers, his cold and distant black eyes traveling over the horizon. the sun was still up in the sky, but with the eternal darkness of Kensar, the sun might as well be 5 feet from the castle and its light still wouldn't warm. It was upon this day, Koru felt a particular state of dread. It was natural for any leader to feel the weight of certain burdens on their shoulders, but now Koru felt like he had taken on Atlas' weight as well as his own.

The sun streaked across the ashen sky, running to the Coro mountains. As if like magic the sun suddenly became brighter on the other sides of the mountain. Was there eternal sunshine in Alhazar as there was eternal darkness in Kensar? Koru had once lived in Alhazar, but in the darkness of his mind he had never found the light. If eyes are the window to the soul, then the wolf's soul was blacker than black. It was galaxies upon of galaxies that lack suns and stars. It was the sight of a blind man, but blind men could still feel. Koru was barren of all emotion, all except for anger.

The King turned his head when he heard the approaching creature. The cringing sound of the iron gates didn't cause the King to flinch. The dimly lit room was cast in shadow by the dark overtone, despite the torches in each corner of the room.

"Come in Tinsel," the mighty animal stood from his resting place and turned to face the arctic fox. "We have business to attend to, my old friend."

(spellcheck isn't working as of now, so if there are any spelling errors I'll make sure to fix that soon.)

(That's okay! ^^)

Tinsel padded towards his leader. The wolf had an old soul and many secrets. So many thoughts buzzed through the fox's head when he thought of this. Just how long had Koru been around? Just how long had he been planning to take over Kingdom Animalia? Tinsel ruffled his coat for a minute. There was so much to discuss with his leader. The first topic was, of course, Kaylink.

"Your lordship, I believe that there is a traitor amongst us. You of course know of whom I speak. I don't trust the cat, you highness. I don't trust that feline at all..." spoke Tinsel, his voice serious. There was something not right about the cheetah. What if he, too, tried a rebellion against the King? Koru would be ready for sure...but where would the cheetah go? He would die before he got away with an assassination.

"Your majesty, I think you should also know...a mercenary is in town. Kaylink has spoken words in private with him. There is something not right about them. One minute our cheetah was pulling accusations against the creature...the next they were whispering together like old friends." Tinsel spat at the floor to get his point across.

(^^)

Koru chuckled softly, the rich sound bouncing off the walls and disappearing into the shadows.

"My friend, I know what goes on beyond my back. Kaylink is power hungry, but she will find that I would let her starve then fill her gluttonous hunger. She will not get away with her actions."

Turning to face the fox, Koru looked down at him, examining the fox with great care. "Why do I not exile her? I have asked myself that question many times before. The cheetah has a certain darkness that cannot be escaped. It is that darkness that Kensar needs and it is her loathing of me that feeds that dark power."

The King licked his lips, ivory fangs glinting in the dark. King Koru's chucking grew more hearty as Tinsel spoke and spat upon the floor.

"My old friend, I understand completely. I admire your judgment, for I feel that it is correct. I will keep an eye out for this mercenary. Perhaps if he is involved with Kaylink, he would like to do business with me."

The humorous glint in his eyes sent his sarcastic point across to Tinsel. If there was a brewing scheme between the mercenary and Kaylink, Koru would discover it and then he would deal with the two in his own way.

"Tinsel," the wolf looked to the fox at his side, "when the time comes for battle, I want you to take charge of your own fleet. I have come to the decision that you are fit for the job."

The arctic fox put on his own smirk, his ears flicking in delight. He could only imagine what would happen if the mercenary tried to "do business" with Koru. The wolf was the most clever. He had a sense of darkness that made the thought of an attack against him very humorous.

The sudden position given was a surprise. Tinsel had always wanted to command his own fleet. He had been trained since he was a pup for battle. He knew every tactic Kensar had in mind like the back of his hand. A position to help lead in battle was one of the greatest of accomplishments. He had studied to guide infantry, and here was his chance to let his talents be known. The fox was now holding his head high, his chest held out.

"I would enjoy the pleasure of commanding a fleet and I thank you with my deepest thoughts," said the fox respectfully, inclining his head in a bow.

His own fleet. His dream come true. He would always strive for the position of general, yet a lieutenant commander of a fleet his own was just as good. Tinsel gave a dark smile, his eyes glinting dangerously.

"Alhazar will fall to our mighty claws."

Koru grinned down at his friend. The fox shared his sadistic nature. Both enjoyed to see others in pain.

"You are very welcome my friend. I know that you will not disappoint me during battle."

Tinsel was more then qualified for the job and Koru would see it through that his friend had a fleet charging behind him. Perhaps he would ever put Kaylink under Tinsel's charge. That thought amused the wolf for a moment, an evil glint in his cold black eyes.

Staring out at the darkened world, the sun now fully hidden by the moon, Koru nodded. He did not blink, he did not breathe. Tinsels words sent a flood of images through his mind.

"Indeed they will my friend. Indeed they will...."

His life would not be complete until he could sink his fangs into the golden fur of the lioness. That was what drove him day after day. Deep in his soul he was thirsting for war and only the blood of a certain kitty cat could quench it.
